Elementary Guidance

An elementary school counselor's primary function is to provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K-5 and specifically provide activities to meet the needs of the assigned case-load. An elementary school counselor consults with teachers, staff and parents to enhance the effectiveness in helping students and providing other educational guidance curriculum programs.

At Fisher Elementary, guidance is responsible for 

  • implementing elementary guidance curriculum lessons, covering topics from to bullying to respect to conflict resolution;

  • counseling students individually;

  • managing small groups, such as social skills groups and the "Lunch Bunch," a group that focuses on self-confidence, self-esteem and positive peer interaction as well as social skills;

  • consulting with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of their students;

  • referring students with severe problems to appropriate community agencies in consultation with their parents;

  • leading the Team Multi-Tier System of Support Team (M.T.S.S;)

  • coordinating or conducting activities which contribute to the needs of the school, such as the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and scholarship programs for various students; and 

  • pursing professional development growth activities.
