Elementary Guidance
An elementary school counselor's primary function is to provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K-5 and specifically provide activities to meet the needs of the assigned case load. An elementary school counselor consults with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance the effectiveness in helping students and providing other educational guidance curriculum programs.
At Fisher Elementary, guidance is responsible for

implementing elementary guidance curriculum lessons, covering topics from bullying to respect to conflict resolution;

counseling students individually;

managing small groups, such as social skills groups and the "Lunch Bunch," a group that focuses on self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive peer interaction as well as social skills;

consulting with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of their students;

referring students with severe problems to appropriate community agencies in consultation with their parents;

leading the Team Multi-Tier System of Support Team (M.T.S.S;)

coordinating or conducting activities that contribute to the needs of the school, such as the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and scholarship programs for various students; and

pursing professional development growth activities.
